Pintupi woman, Marinka came to Haasts Bluff as a very small child, was schooled at Papunya and later worked for the station managers house as a cook and cleaner. Marinka is a half sister to Narputta Nangala, her father was Tjalakuny, and Narputta played a big part in raising Marinka. In her own words, ‘Narputta grew her up’.
Marinka often paints abstracted depictions of her tjukurrpa, the Kalinykalinypa, or Honey Grevilea plant, which grows in spinefex areas, it is sweet tasting and easily recognisable by its bright orange flowers. The delicious nector is sucked from the flower as it is drawn through the mouths of eager children.
