Sarrita King, a Gurindji, Waanyi woman, has been combining the rich traditional culture and methods of indigenous artists with contemporary attitudes and new techniques seeing her develop a new style of indigenous art. She has strived to remain faithful to the old whilst embracing the new, demonstrating that Indigenous art is not just about what has been, but about highlighting the here, the now and the future.
Collaborating with Ballarat born Tegan Hamilton they together continue this journey with a relationship between their cultures.
On heavy linen, Sarrita and Tegan use acrylic paints to create this piece. They utilise technology to communicate and mock up ideas, but complete their own painting separately, responding to one another with the painting in front of them.
