This painting draws on designs associated with the site of Marrapinti, west of Kiwirrkurra, a rockhole amidst the endless dunes of the Gibson Desert. Here, a large group of ancestral women camped and made nose bones, also called marrapinti, before continuing their travels to the east, through Wala Wala, Kiwirrkurra and Ngaminya. On their journey, they gathered the edible berries known as kampurarrpa, or desert raisin, to sustain themselves.
