LILY KELLY NAPANGARDI

This painting depicts the sand hills of the Kintore and Connistan areas. These works portray winds and the desert environment after rain, and the seasonal changes in the desert landscape. These contemporary interpretations demonstrate Lilly’s deep understanding and knowledge of her country. Lilly is a senior law woman of the Watiyawanu community in the Haasts Bluff area of the Northern Territory, approximately 325 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs. Lilly has authority over the Women's Dreaming story associated with Kunajarrayi, and is a teacher to younger women traditional dancing and singing.
