ANNA PRICE PITJARA

Anna Pitjara is the daughter of the late Glory Ngarla and niece to the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. An established artist in the Utopia region, she began painting in the early 1980s. Born around 1965 she is a mother and grandmother. Anna primarily paints the sand hills and river beds of the Utopia area. Anna's works are her contemporary interpretations of her ancestral country, with fine rows of dots marking out the locations of sandhill and bush country, river flood plains and sometimes waterholes and ceremonial sites. These works portray winds moving through the desert environment after rain, and the seasonal changes in the desert landscape and environmental influences are represented throughout the works. Anna Petyarre is famous for her artistic attention to detail in the complex and interwoven designs that she so carefully structures, aimed at expressing her traditional Anmatyerre culture.
