JEANNIE MILLS PWERLE
This artwork depicts Jeannie's depict the Anatye (Bush Yam), a staple bush food found on Jeannie's country of Utopia - approximately 300km North of Alice Springs.
The linear strokes represent the tubers of the plant and the dots and the dots symbolise the seeds. The Anatye grows underground with a shrub growing above ground, up to one metre high. It produces large pink flowers after the summer rain and tastes similar to a sweet potato.
Jeannie pays homage the Anatye through her paintings and in ceremony encourage it's continual rejuvenation.
