MICHELLE COOPER
Michelle paints Walka Wiru Ngura Wiru (sometimes shortened to Wiru Wiru) which means lovely country, lovely painting.
Michelle paints the significant Women’s Dreaming stories of Two Sisters (Minyma Kutjara Tjukurpa) and Seven Sisters Dreamings from her paternal grandmother’s Pitjantjatjara ancestry in an intricate dot pattern.
Michelle absorbed her father’s and grandmother’s Tjukurpa, traditional and spiritual knowledge, and incorporates the Tjurkurpa of her homelands into her paintings with a distinctive precise and intricate dotting technique combined with her uniquely vibrant colour palette. Her artworks are both a reverent expression of her ancestral traditions and contemporary colourful artworks which are gaining the attention of art collectors. Her paintings are representing the sandy desert country and sandstone hills around the Tompkinson Ranges of Pipalyatjara, Kalka and Irrunytju communites of her homelands in the far north west of South Australia.
