Bush Turkey Dreaming
1/2

ABIE LOY KEMARRE

Abie Loy is an Anmatyerre artist, born at Utopia station, about 270km north east of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. She is the daughter of artist Margaret Loy Pula and granddaughter of the highly collectible Kathleen Petyarre. Her Bush Turkey Dreaming (Arwengerrp) was inherited from her grandfather and the first story Abie was allowed to paint. The Arwengerrp are often found in densely grassed areas of Utopia, Abie’s country. The dreaming details the Arwengerrp travelling the country in search of bush seeds. The flowing patterns correspond with the pathways taken by the turkeys in their never ending search for food whilst attempting to safeguard her chicks from prey.
